Martha Spear Obituary

Martha J. Spear, 88, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday August 10, 2016, at Menno Haven. Born August 1, 1928, in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Paul G. and Frances Dunlap Swartz. Her beloved husband, Russell S. Spear, Jr., precede her in death in 2009. Martha was employed as a seamstress at the Stanley Co. in Chambersburg until her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where she had taught Sunday school for over 20 years and was active in bible study. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting. Martha is survived by two children, Nancy Lehman and husband Edgar of Chambersburg and Raymond and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Stephanie Boone and husband John of Hagerstown, MD, Scott Lehman and wife Cecelia of Chambersburg, Kristin Spear of HI, Megan Calabrese and husband Adam of Chicago, IL, and Kevin Spear of Chicago, IL; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Colton, Jasmine and Chloe. In addition to her parents and husband, Martha is preceded in death by one brother. A funeral service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 14, 2016, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Diane Salter will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 14, 2016 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
