John Coffman

John “Jack” C. Coffman, age 78, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Friday, October 14, 2016. Born October 2, 1938, in Ottumwa, IA, he was the son of the late John Robert and Marjorie Rowland Coffman. A 1961 graduate of the University of Iowa, Jack earned his Bachelor degree in Mathematics and Physics. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army. Jack continued his government service working as an operations research analyst. He earned his Master’s degree from Frostburg State in 1981. Jack retired from federal service in 1993, after 35 years. Jack loved to play the saxophone, listen to Jazz music, dance, go on walks, and read. Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Diane Shields Coffman, whom he married in 1961; two children, John R. and Jeanette D. Coffman; one granddaughter, Anastasia Coffman; and a sister, Linda Ellis. A memorial service to honor Jack’s life will be held in the spring of 2017. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton unit, 610 Community Way Lancaster, PA 17603.
