Betty J. Winters, 59, of Chambersburg, PA, formally of Dempseytown, PA, died August 31,2016 at Hershey Medical Center after a short illness. Born October 23, 1956 in Oil City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Billy O. and Shirley (Deeter) Smalley. She Graduated from Oil City High School in 1974. Betty was Previously employed by Maryland Cup, KMart of Chambersburg, and Avon Cosmetics . She was known for her kind spirit, great generosity, and an endearing feisty nature. Everyone admired her green thumb; and was amazed by her beautiful house plants. In 2005 Betty suffered a stroke, which returned her to Chambersburg, PA; an independent resident of the Village of Laural Run. Everyone knew "Betty". She made her rounds at the facility, and loved helping others, often assisting them with their pets or playing BINGO. When she wasn't helping, she enjoyed playing BINGO herself, playing cards, doing puzzles, weekly trips to Walmart, and other road trips from the facility. On game days, Betty would be found watching the Baltimore Orioles. She married to James I. Winters in Dempseytown, PA on June 8, 1974. Jim preceded her in death on May 17, 1995. Betty loved the Lord and is now reunited with Jim. She is survived by her sons, James I. Winters, wife, Karen of Chambersburg, PA, Joshua J., wife, Beth of Bronx, NY; Matthew C. of Butler, PA; her grandchildren, Austin, Sierra, Eli, and new baby, Ava; 3 sisters; Patricia (William) Hunt of Wallaceville, PA; Mary (Arthur) Kellogg of Dempseytown, PA; Brenda (Fred) Niederriter of Venus, PA; 2 brothers; Thomas Smalley of Masaryktown,FL and Robert Smalley of Titusville, PA; and sister-in-law Charlene Winters of Shippensburg,PA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary and Fredrick Smalley.
