Bertha Burkholder

Bertha Flohr Burkholder, 93, of Chambersburg, passed into eternity on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Born, March 16, 1923 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Alice Burkhart Flohr. Her beloved husband, Noah A. Burkholder, preceded her in death on May 5, 2013. Early in her life, Bertha worked for the Heinz Co. and then the Stanley Co. She later earned her Real Estate License and was employed as a Real Estate Agent with Century 21. She and her husband also built and fixed up houses in their spare time. Bertha was a member of the Fourth Street Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, Lee R. (husband of Darlene “Ritchey”) Burkholder of Chambersburg and Dean (husband of Carol “Shafer”) Burkholder of Shippensburg; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Carl R. Flohr and wife Arlene of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Burkholder and Isabel Mummert; one granddaughter, Jenny Golden; and a great-grandson, Caleb Burkholder. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Darlene Stouffer and Pastor Jesse Miles will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Fourth Street Church of the Brethren, 260 South Fourth Street or to Meals on Wheels, 43 West Washington Street, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201.
