Lewis J. Davidson, Jr., 89, of Bellefonte, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Eagle Valley Home Care. He was born on November 17, 1926, in Madera, PA, a son of the late Lewis D. and Esther B. (Richards) Davidson. On June 25, 1952, in Bellefonte, he married Alice Jane Gentzel who passed away on October 26, 1996. She was the daughter of the late Paul D. Gentzel and Penelope Tate Gentzel of Bellefonte. He is survived by his companion, Nancy Buller of Bellefonte. He was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He worked for Bell Atlantic for 33 years retiring in 1981 as an installer. He was of the Protestant Faith. Lewis was a member of the Bellefonte American Legion Post#33 and Bell Atlantic Pioneers of America. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a ships serviceman, Instore Keeper at NB Buckner Bay, Okinawa from February 6, 1944 to July 11, 1946, and then served in the Korean War, 3rd class petty officer aboard the U.S.S. Walke Dive Destroyer 723 from November 13, 1950 to October 2, 1952. On June 12, 1951 (Pearl Harbor) while serving in Korea, the Destroyer Struck a mine in the Sea of Japan, with 7th fleet with task force 77, killing 27 guys. Both times serving were honorable discharge. Lewis is survived by three children: Robert L. Davidson (Hazel) of Howard, Peggy A. Davidson (Glenn) of Bellefonte and Timothy J. Davidson of Bellefonte. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Bobbi Jo Davidson, Tracy Lavatan (Kirk), Cody Davidson, Preston Kresovich (Amber), Drew Kresovich (Joni), Jamie Hayward (Kevin), Chad Davidson (Denise), two step-grandchildren: Jamie Perry and Jennifer Johnstonbaugh and eleven great grandchildren: Payton and Sydney Hill, K.J. and Jadyn Lavatan, Louis and Josie Kresovich, Austin and Ava Kresovich, Taylor Bierly, Colton Hayward, and Hunter Davidson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Davidson, whom served in the US Army 45th Infantry Division in Korea, where he lost his life on May 1, 1952, at the age of 24. There will be a public visitation held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family with Pastor Jody Reese officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 341 North Science Park Rd, Suite 207, State College, PA 16803. .
