Smith, 74, of Bellefonte, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on April 14, 1942, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Robert P. and Jean H. (Sasserman) Smith. In 1963, he married Dorothy (Long) Smith, who survives at home. Donald was a 1960 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He worked for many years at G.M. McCrossin in Bellefonte and as a pipe fitter for the Local 520, retiring in 2004, with over 30 years of service. Don was a former President of Bellefonte Little League and continued to volunteer for the remainder of his life. He assisted the Bellefonte Softball Team working on the fields and was also an assistant coach for Bellefonte Teener League. He was a past President of Legion Baseball. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends and was his grandchildren’s biggest supporter during their sporting careers. Don was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte and a founding member and public speaker for the Centre County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons; Todd A. Smith (Danna) of Bellefonte, Travis V. Smith (Brandi) of Belmont, N.C., one sister, Patricia S. Stevens of State College, and two grandchildren; Brittany J. Smith and Storm A. Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy L. Smith, two brothers; Kenneth F. (Buck) Smith and Fred R. Smith. A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 12:00pm, at the Bellefonte Little League field, W 5th Avenue, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bellefonte Little League, Po Box 517, Bellefonte, PA or B.J. Wetzler Softball Scholarship in c/o Bellefonte Education Foundation at 318 North Allegheny Street, Bellefonte, or Trinity United Methodist Church at 128 W. Howard Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
