Leland Bradford "Lee” Stoneman, 70, of Lebanon, Oregon, formerly of the Seaside and Tillamook areas, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2007 at home.
He was born on October 28, 1936 in Vermillion, Kansas, the son of John and Eleanor (Coons) Stoneman. As a young child, his family settled on the Oregon slope of Weiser, Idaho. There, they operated a dairy farm that he took over at age 12 when his dad’s health left him unable to work anymore. Starting in 1959, he worked at various agricultural type jobs that took him from Weiser, Idaho to Seaside, Oregon. Lee tried his hand at an appliance repair business for a couple of years, after a back-breaking accident that involved surgery, recuperation, and rehabilitation; ended his 17 year logging career with Crown-Zellerbach in Seaside, Oregon. From 1982 to 1986, Lee worked for several independent logging contactors. He then worked for LS&D Logging from 1986 until 2005. He retired and moved to Lebanon in July of 2006.
Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, and clam digging.
He is survived by his children: Dina Lee Stoneman of Corvallis, Oregon, Adena Lou Stoneman of Missoula, Montana, Karla Marie Wade of Boise, Idaho, Dennis Leland Stoneman of Lebanon, Oregon, and Tennora Fay Herington of Tillamook, Oregon; his mother Eleanor Stoneman of Knappa, Oregon; brothers: John Rodney Stoneman of Knappa, Oregon and Marcus Ronald Stoneman of Vale, Oregon; sister: Darlene Fauser of Vancouver, Washington; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, John Stoneman.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 1:00 PM at the Lewis and Clark Bible Church, located at 35082 Seppa Lane in Astoria. Burial will follow at the Lewis and Clark Cemetery in Astoria.
