Juanita MacDougall Obituary

Juanita MacDougall, known to her friends as “Mama Nita” died August 23, 2016, of breast cancer in her home, surrounded by members of her family. Her unwavering faith in God, the personal care she received from her loving family, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through her final journey. Nita was born Juanita Angeline Blalock on November 28, 1949 to Robert L. Blalock and Mable L. Hunt in Glendale California. Nita was survived by her brothers Robert (“Bob”) Blalock, Lee Blalock, Merlin Jenson, and sisters Donna Prewett, and Paulette Zazueta, and her children, Lloyd (“Lee”) Corwin, Lela Lowe, Cindy Farleigh, and Cable Parsons. Nita was also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Nita loved music and was a talented musician throughout her life which she shared openly with family, friends, and whoever would listen. She also had a deep love for animals and often referred to them as her furry friends. It wouldn’t be strange to hear that she had taken in a stray and gave it a good home. She founded and owned several businesses in Hood River over the years including Gifted Grooming and Mama Nita’s Karaoke. She was also immensely caring and would often take in someone who was struggling in one way or another, give them a job, a shoulder, friendly advice, and a kick in the pants if that’s what they needed. Mama Nita overcame incredible odds throughout her life and was a true survivor in every way. She knew what it was to struggle. She also knew what it was to get back up and be better and more successful than ever before and had no problem helping others do the same, simply out of the goodness of her heart. She will forever be in the hearts of anyone who came into contact with her. A viewing will be held on Thursday September 1, 2016 from 4pm – 8pm at Anderson’s Tribute Center. There will be a private graveside service held at Mosier Cemetery at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 2, 2016, for immediate family. A Celebration of Life (potluck) will be held at 3:30pm at Tucker Park, 2440 Dee Hwy, Hood River, OR 97031 for family and friends to “Make a Joyful Noise” through karaoke, in remembrance of a spectacular woman and mother. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
