William Roy Foreshee Obituary

William Roy Foreshee Mr. Foreshee went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016. He was born on August 14, 1929 in Madison, Illinois. He enjoyed playing the trumpet all of his life. He played football when he was in high school and in college. In 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Lucille Hooper. He attended Southern Illinois University and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana, earning a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1951. In 1974, he received his MS in Industrial Engineering from Ohio University in Athens, OH. After graduation from college, he worked at Shell Oil Company in Wood River, IL. where he operated a fluidized bed pilot plant. He spent several years in Paducah, KY assisting in the startup of the Gaseous Diffusion Plant for Union Carbide Corp. and the Atomic Energy Commission. The plant produced U-235 for nuclear power plants and the military and was listed as Classified Information during the war. While he was there, he developed a unique, one-of-a-kind fluidized bed reactor to achieve 100% recovery of UF6 from waste gases discharged into the atmosphere. After fine-tuning that plant’s operation, he transferred to Uravan, CO where the plant there produced uranium for the Atomic Energy Commission and vanadium for the stainless steel industry. While he was plant metallurgist in Uravan, he developed several process changes to improve the operation and substantially lower the cost of the product produced. In 1967, Mr. Foreshee transferred to the Union Carbide Metal plant in Marietta, OH where he worked with the production of molten chromium, electrolytic manganese, and manganese dioxide. He became plant manager of the manganese dioxide plant in 1981 and the plant achieved world class status as a producer of premium product for the production of alkaline and dry cell batteries. He retired in 1985 and began wintering with his wife in the Winter Haven, FL area. In 1988, he came out of retirement to be the plant manager at the Gulf Chemical and Metallurgical Company in Freeport, TX. There he was in charge of a major expansion of capacity for the plant. Between 1988 and 1991, he ran his own consulting service and worked in Georgia, Texas, Brazil, & China helping the plants there operate more efficiently. He returned to Marietta in 1991. Mr. Foreshee was a member of the Rotary in Marietta, Florida and Texas since 1983. He and his wife started Safetytown for Kids programs in Lake Jackson, TX and Freeport, TX. They also assisted their daughter, Jan, in starting a Safetytown in Durango, CO. All three Safetytowns have been running successfully each summer for over 20 years. He leaves behind his wife, Lucille, of 68 years and four daughters: Jan Rymer (Dan) of Rogersville, MO; Peggy Heiney of Houston, TX; Lois Neville (Ray) of Marietta, OH; and Juli Bainbridge (Tom) of Dayton, OH. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Heather Thompson (Troy) and Scott Rymer of Denver, CO; Matt and Lou Heiney of Houston, TX; Benjamin Wacksman of Dayton, OH; and Josh, Jake, and Johnnie Archer of Marietta, OH. He also has two great-grandsons: Ryan and Alex Thompson of Denver.
