Ronald G. Griggs, 87 of Ashland, passed away Monday evening August 15, 2016 at his residence following a 15 month illness. Mr. Griggs was born in Akron, Ohio on August 19, 1928 and was the son of the late Harold and Betsy (Straits) Griggs. He was a graduate of Ashland High School class of 1947. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years. In 1955 he went to work for Archway in Ashland where he became an oven operator and worked at the company for 39 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Maple Grove Brethren Church where he had served as an usher and on the board of trustees. He was an avid photographer, enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers, listening to music, especially the Rolling Stones, traveling, bird watching, and electronics and computers. On October 10, 1953 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Keener who survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Cathy A. (Dr. Donald) Kaeser of Ashland; four grandchildren, Rhonda McCoy (Ryan Offhaus); Regina Sklenicka; Lisa (Charles) Burgess and Zane (Sara) Bowen; seven great grandchildren, Caitlin McCoy, Trevor McCoy, Shayla Ochier, Shane Sklenicka, Charles Burgess, Jarod Burgess and Catherine Burgess; and one sister, Janet White of Tampa, FL. Funeral services will be held Monday August 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. John Ballinger officiating. Burial will be in the Nankin Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday August 21, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Brethren Church, 960 Twp.
