Paul Frederick Boales 87, of Ashland, passed away Monday afternoon, July 11, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center in Ashland. He was born August 14, 1928 in Media, IL and was the son of Otto and Helen (Peterson) Boales. He had been a graduate of Polk High School and was a resident of Ashland for most of his life. Paul had been employed as a supervisor at the F.E. Myers (Pentair) Company for many years. He had also worked as Chief Deputy for four years with the Ashland County Sheriff Department under Sheriff Topper. He was a baseball & softball umpire and also a basketball official for many years working in all of the area schools, Brookside Park and the YMCA. He also coached Little League thru Pony League baseball teams for many years. He was a former Cub Scout Leader and former Scout Master, and had been a member and past president of the Arthur Street School PTA. Paul proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Missouri. He is survived by three daughters, Paula (Dan) Harpster of Polk; Shirley (Steven) Gabor of North Carolina and Sally (Kevin) Canfield of Nova. One son, Keith (Peggy) Boales of Ashland, 8 grandchildren and two special and loving granddaughters, Lindsey (Donald Medders) Huber & Sara (Charity Tinkham) O’Bryan 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Rick L. Boales on March 11, 1970, a grandson, William (Billy) Gannon; one sister, Peggy Garber and four brothers, Dewey, Ernest, Carl and Richard Boales. Services will be held Thursday July 14, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Julie Thoms officiating. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the funeral home following the services. Friends may visit with the family for two hours prior to the services from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. A private interment will take place at a later date. Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
