Lowell Horn Obituary

Lowell I Horn 91, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016 at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center. He was born November 19, 1924 in New London, Ohio to the late Ollie E. and Bertha (nee Eddings) Horn. Lowell grew up in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School in 1942 and had also attended Ashland College. On March 17, 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force where he attained the rank of Corporal and served as a Surgical Technician with HQ Squadron, 68th Air Service Group with the Flying Tigers in the China and Burma Theater and was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946. Lowell had worked for the Goodyear Aerospace/ Loral Corporation as a Technical Writer from 1959 until his retirement in 1989. He lived in Stow, Ohio at this time where he served as a Ward 1 Councilman from 1973 to 1980. Lowell and his wife Gloria were founding members of the First United Methodist Church in Stow, Ohio. He was a passionate Bridge player and Duplicate Bridge player, an avid sports enthusiast of the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team. He was a former member of a bowling league while living in Stow. He enjoyed collecting stamps, gardening, collecting antiques, refinishing furniture and caning chairs. On March 24, 1951 he was married to Gloria B. Barr who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Hilary A. (Stuart) Ratner of Detroit, MI; and Elizabeth E. “Liz” (George) Horacek of Fairview Park, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Gena Ellen Ratner and a brother, Ollie E. Horn Jr. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan Bevere officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family following the service at the funeral home. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the funeral home on Monday also. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research and be sent to; Donation Procession, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD. 21741-5014.
