Lawrence Carl "LC" Howard Jr.

Lawrence Carl “L.C.” Howard, Jr., 81, of Franklin, died February 10, 2014 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Macon County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Carl Howard, Sr. and Beatrice Crunkleton Howard. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha, wife of Jack Craig of Otto. After attending Highlands School, he graduated from Franklin High School and Western Carolina Teachers College. After serving in the US Army, he began a 39-year teaching career at Franklin High School. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in Champagne in Mathematics and from Western Carolina University in Education. In addition to teaching math, he served as the sponsor of many clubs, supported FHS athletics and served on the State Textbook Commission. He was the longest standing member of Mulberry United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of United Methodist Men South Macon Charge, taught Sunday School, served as the Lay Leader, chair of committees, and the charge treasurer. Beyond his local church he served as a lay speaker, and on District and Conference committees. He was past President of Franklin Lions Club. He enjoyed participating in many community activities. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Snyder Howard; two daughters, Laura Whitt and her husband Daryl of Simpsonville, SC and Angela Martin and her husband Paul of Franklin; three grandchildren Sarah Whitt, Ben Whitt and, Helen Martin; three sisters, Betty Huffman of Otto, Mary Lee Howard of Hiawassee, GA, and Nancy Owen and husband Gurlie of Brevard. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15th at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Janet Greene and Rev. Vic Greene will officiate. Burial will be in the Mulberry UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mulberry UMC, 155 Mulberry Rd.
