Hazel "Bunny" Strait

Hazel “Bunny” Strait, 93, under hospice care at the Eckerd Living Center, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Born, Hazel Doloris Cable, in Rogers, Kentucky, on Oct. 6, 1922, she resided in both Muskegon, MI, and Sarasota, FL, before moving to the Oak Grove Community of Franklin in 1982. She married George Edgar Strait on July 5, 1941, after nearly 58 glorious years he graduated to heaven in 1999. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Bunny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor. Though bird watching and gardening were her favorite activities, she was an awesome cook and considered cleanliness as next to godliness. There are many fond memories for all who visited her front porch. Surviving are her three daughters, Peggy Baker of Taylors, SC, Carole (Arden) Mellott, of Franklin, and Laura (Michael) Patrick of Orofino, ID, and a cousin, Ray (Debi) Strait of Franklin. Also surviving are 4 grandsons; 2 granddaughters, including Becky (Barry) Cabe of Franklin; 1 step granddaughter; 12 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson, and 2 step great-great granddaughters. A viewing and visitation with family will be held from 6-8:30 pm on Wednesday, September 7th at Macon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, September 8th at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Judson Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Mellott, David Cabe, Aaron Cabe, Luke Cabe, Caleb Cabe and John Cabe.
