Billy Hartsell

Mr. Billy “Bill” Wayne Hartsell of Union Street South, passed away Thursday evening, July 21, 2016 at his home. A graveside service with military honors will be 10 AM Monday at Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Tony Bradshaw and E.Z. Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at St. James Lutheran Church Fellowship Room. Bill was born February 2, 1944 in Charlotte to the late Luther Franklin Hartsell and Cindy Mae Cagle Hartsell. He graduated from Concord High School in 1963, lettering in football, basketball and baseball and was an all-South Piedmont Conference athlete. He played American Legion baseball for three years before playing Triple “A” baseball in the San Francisco Giants organization. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served 4 years during the Vietnam Conflict. He later was employed by the Norfolk Southern Corporation as a train engineer. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Klaus Hartsell, and son, George A. Hartsell of Charlotte.
