Doris J. Reber

Doris J. Reber, age 85, of Rome went to be with our Lord and her beloved husband, John, peacefully, on October 22, 2016. She was born February 25, 1931, in Altoona, PA, the daughter of the late Reuben and Kathryn Lorigan Aigler, and graduated from Altoona High School in 1948. Doris married John M. Waite on December 30, 1950. She later married John F. Reber on September 28, 1984, in Rome; he died June 19, 1998. She was employed by the Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, and then transferred to New York Telephone Company, and retired in March 1985, after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Church, Young Ladies Society of the church, Butternut Twig and South Rome Senior Center. Doris enjoyed playing pinochle with her daughters and friends. She also spent much of her time crocheting gifts for those she loved, reading and doing cross-word puzzles. Doris is survived by her beloved daughters and sons in law, Deborah and James Castle of Oriskany, and Joyce and Donald Winslow of Utica; her cherished grandchildren, Echo Lynch, Natalie Serour, Kyle Castle, Shannon Oliverio; her great grandchildren, Connor and Gavin Lynch, Garrett and Kyleigh Serour, Madison and Matthew Castle, Sydney and Grady Oliverio; they were the love of her life, as well as her husband, John. She is also survived by special friends, Jean Wojdyla and Rose Rutz. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Town of Kirkland. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 3 to 4 PM, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St John Evangelical Church or the Welcome Hall Community Center.
