Benjamin “Ben” R. Edick, age 19, of Westmoreland, passed away unexpectedly, July 22, 2016, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born April 17, 1997, in Rome, a son of Mark D. and Kelly Hoey Edick, and graduated from Westmoreland Central School in 2015. Ben was a very active student at Westmoreland Central School. He was a former member of the school Marching Band and leading pole vaulter on the track and field team, and participated in the New York State Field and Track Tournament in his senior year. He was a music lover, playing guitar, alto sax and tenor sax. He enjoyed any type of fishing, crabbing and being near the ocean. Ben also enjoyed his many years of snowboarding during the winter. He cherished the many friendships he made over the years. Ben is survived by his father and stepmother, Mark D. and Deborah K. Edick of Westmoreland; his mother, Kelly Hoey Edick and significant other, Jeff Blouin of Westmoreland; a brother, Daniel M. Edick of Westmoreland; a sister, Lynsi Chrisman of Westmoreland; Grandparents, Richard Hoey of Rome and Richard W. King, Sr of Hamilton; Jeff Blouin’s mother, Sandra Blouin, who treated Ben like a grandson; several aunts and uncles; Bruce Edick and Michael Edick of Rome, Richard W. King, Jr of Rome, Michael J. King of Katy, TX, Nancy and Stephen Kraynick of Lompoc, CA, and Richard and Chrissy Hoey of Rome; and many cousins, Stephen Kraynick, Jr of Arizona, Cullen King, Brendon King and Chloe King, all of Katy, TX. He was predeceased by grandparents, Daniel and Betty Edick, Rosemary Hoey and Trudy King. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 6:30 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday from 2 to 6 PM, prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department or the Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption Program.
