Rensselaer- Michael “Mickey” James Rooney, Sr., 65 years passed away Wednesday November 25, 2009 at his home. He was born April 19, 1944 in Albany and lived most of his life in Rensselaer. The son of Josephine Wicks Rooney and the late Joseph Rooney, Jr. Mike served in the Army. Mickey worked at Maiden Lane in Rensselaer before retiring. Mickey loved talking on CB Radio (Jessie James), old cars; sitting by the river and watching the boats, talking to his friends and old time rock & roll music. Husband of Carol (Plue) Rooney. Father of Georgette Rooney, Michelle Rost (David), Michael Rooney, Jr. (Robin), Robert Rooney Sr. (Stephanie). Grandfather of Jonathan serving in Iraq (Ashley), Matthew (Courtney), Schuyler, Aaron, Robert Jr., Harry, Christopher and Austin, and 5 great grandchildren and the newest one Antonio Jason. Brother of Teresa (Jim) Walls and the late Harry Rooney and Gerald Rooney. Son-in-law to Robert Plue. Also survived by several nieces, great nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and his faithful dog Bandit. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday morning at 11:00 and 12:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph’s Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-6 PM. Interment will be in New Rural Cemetery, East Greenbush.
