Rensselaer-Leslie R. Barnard Jr. age 84 of Mountainview Avenue passed into spirit Friday March 28, 2003 at Albany Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Rensselaer and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Barnard was employed as a railroad engineer for New York Central and Amtrak for 41 years. He was a US Army veteran of WW II serving with the 65th General Hospital. Les was a member of the Fort Crailo American Legion Post #471 in Rensselaer, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and was an Honorary Life Member Rensselaer Council #267 KofC. He enjoyed and was an avid fisherman, camper and his time spent working on the railroad.
Husband of Jeanne M. Hannon Barnard of Rensselaer; father of Wayne R. Barnard and Leslie R. Barnard III both of Rensselaer. Grandfather of Wayne R. Barnard Jr. and Brett Barnard. Brother of the late Richard Barnard and Florence Lindhagen. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday evening at 7:00 p.m., all are invited to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Monday prior to the service from 4-7 p.m.
