Robert Giacobbe Obituary

Robert J. (Bob) Giacobbe, a 30 year resident of Upper Nyack, NY, died peacefully on August 14, 2016 with his wife and children by his side. Bob was born in Medford, MA. on December 21, 1948 to R. Frank and Nicoletta I. Giacobbe.. He served in the U.S. Army and was a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University. He is survived by his wife Regina M. Kelly, daughter Mary N. Giacobbe, son Russell E. Giacobbe, daughter-in-law Bethany A. Giacobbe, sister Catherine Jennings, her husband Donald and their children Matthew Jennings and Ann Trapanese and her husband Dan. Bob is also survived by his large extended Kelly Irish-Polish-Italian American family-by-marriage. Bob cherished time with his family, and enjoyed cheering for the Boston Red Sox, reading and talking about history, bird watching (especially in his backyard), beach days in Cape Cod and most recently armchair woodworking. Bob served many roles in Nyack community organizations, including the Nyack Library Board, Upper Nyack Elementary School PTA, (chair for many years of the Goosetown Bazaar), Nyack-Valley Cottage Little League coach, St. Ann’s CYO girls’ basketball coach, Cub Scout Pack leader, Boy Scout Troop 2 committee member, and St. Ann’s Food Cupboard and Helping Hands Safe Haven team. As the grandson of immigrants, Bob found his time tutoring in the One to One Learning program especially rewarding. His family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory be made to One to One Learning, 640 North Midland Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960. A memorial Mass for Bob will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church in Nyack.
