Marguerite (Peg) Jeanne Gates, 94, of Sleepy Hollow, NY died July 20th. Born in NYC, Peg attended Nyack High School, Mount Holyoke College, Barnard College and Columbia - College of Physicians and Surgeons. She began her medical career in 1954 with an internship at Cincinnati General Hospital and a residency at Babies Hospital in NYC. Peg served as Attending Pediatrician at Babies Hospital and Vanderbilt Clinic and as Attending Physician and subsequently Assistant Medical Director at Helen Hayes Hospital in Haverstraw, NY. She was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia - College of Physicians and Surgeons and had a life-long career in the field of pediatric medicine helping children with developmental and rehabilitative needs. A world and US traveler, Peg had a love for multi-cultural knowledge and experiences along with a soft spot for the Maine coastline which became an annual vacation destination. The daughter of Marguerite S. Gates and Wilton J. Gates, and brother of Wilton J. Gates Jr., she is survived by her nephews Copeland Gates of Lagrangeville, NY and Wilton Gates of Westfield, NJ. A memorial service will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, NY on August 5th at 11:00AM followed by interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
