June Alfeiri

June M. Alfieri of Valley Cottage died January 15, 2016 at age 89, at Nyack Hospital surrounded by her loving family. June was born on December 2nd , 1926 to Matthew Schechter and Anna Howe Schechter in Brooklyn where her maternal grandmother Mary Anne Howe had brought her younger brothers and sisters from County Mayo Ireland for a better life in the USA. June married Victor J. Alfieri Sr. on December 21, 1945 at St. John’s Church in Piermont. They were married for 59 years before Victor’s death July 20th, 2005. June retired from the N.Y. Telephone Company as an Assistant Chief Operator having first worked as a Switchboard Operator in the Sparkill office then at the 99 Main Street Phone Company building in Nyack where she was at one time in charge of human resources. June is survived by her best friend and devoted companion Patrick Higgins; her sister and brother in law Doris and Fred; her sons Richard Daniel (Linda), of Nyack; Judge Victor J. Jr. (Maria), of Congers; Grandchildren, Dawn (Michael) Rogers, Stony Point; Richard Jr. (Diana) Massapequa; Mark (Candice) Valley Cottage; and Matthew; Great Grandchildren Sean, Amanda, Mark Jr., Adrianna, Andrew and Liliana; niece and nephew Pam and Guy. She is predeceased by her brother Daniel and nephew Robert Scott. June moved with her family to Valley Cottage in October 1954. She volunteered for JFK in 1960. After retiring to Florida in the 80’s she was elected President of the Tamarac Homeowners Association. She was always fashionably well dressed and well liked by all who knew her. June’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Nyack Hospital, and Dr. Roy Eriksen for their skilled and compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday January 20th at 10 a.m. at Saint Ann’s Church in Nyack with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack.
