Lillian Avella
Lillian Avella (1935 - 2016) Lillian Avella, 80, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, sister, and widowed wife to wonderful Bill Avella, passed away on Sunday, July 10th, 2016 in New York City. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Lillian was the embodiment of “pure love” to her daughters and grandchildren, and a beautiful, upbeat, genuine, warm inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. A true New Yorker in all respects, Lillian grew up in the Benson Hurst/Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, Staten Island, and spent time traveling the subways to Manhattan as a young child/teenager who always loved the movies or a good Broadway show. She met her husband, Bill Avella, when they worked together at ITT, and married in February 1959. In addition to living in Long Island, Los Angeles, Miami, Key Biscayne, and New Canaan, Lillian had a beautiful life with her husband, her two daughters and her friends. Though she traveled extensively, with Italy, England, Miami and Las Vegas being some of her favorites, Lillian spent the last 29 years in downtown Manhattan, loving it, and referring to all of Manhattan as “always a party.” Lillian loved cruises to all sorts of exotic, beautiful places from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean (Princess, Royal Caribbean and the rest will miss her); she loved Las Vegas and playing black jack, slot machines, and especially, poker with her friends at South Towers (but the Paris Hotel, Mandalay Bay, and Mikosukee Casino will miss her too). She loved books (paper & audio), Jeopardy, old movies, good food—and she was a great artist. But the things she loved the most were her family—and we’ll miss her the most. Lillian Avella is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia (Avella) Motz, and Vivien Avella; her five grandchildren, Joy Alexa Motz, Maximilian Avella Motz, Alexander Scott Motz, Lila Laine Guillory, and Claire Tess Guillory; and her sons-in-law, Lawrence Motz and Robert Guillory.
