Annette Scarola

Annette Scarola of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Friday evening (August 26, 2016) at Maimonides Medical Center after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She was the loving wife of the late Peter Scarola, and devoted mother to her two daughters, Ellen Siegel and the late Madelon Siegel Erbach. Born Annette Doris Jackman on May 15, 1936 in Brooklyn to Harry and Estelle Jackman. She had one sibling, her beloved brother, Walter Jackman, who died in 2013. Annette was a smart, sweet, kind and loving person who was beloved by her family, friends and neighbors. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and later attended Brooklyn College. She worked as a bookkeeper for a number of organizations, and for more than twenty years as a Patient Accounts Supervisor at Maimonides Medical Center, from which she retired in 2001. During her retirement, she was active in fundraising events for the City of Hope, an organization which supports cancer research and patient care. Annette most enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends, including the many joyful hours she spent at the Scarola family's restaurant. She had a lifelong love of animals, a passion she passed on to her daughters, and cherished the many dogs and cats that became part of her family. Annette overcame much adversity in her life, but also knew much happiness, especially during the fifty years she spent with her husband, Peter. She was beloved by her family and friends and touched the hearts of the many people that came into her life, however briefly. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Siegel, her many nephews, nieces and cousins, including Barry Colfelt, who helped care for her during her last years, her brother-in-law Angelo Scarola, and her brother Walter's domestic partner, Denise Brown. A graveside funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at 11:30 am at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to organizations devoted to caring for dogs, cats and other animals, including the Kings Highway Cat Rescue, 5005 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY 11234, or to those devoted to research and care of people with cancer and other debilitating illnesses, including the City of Hope.
