Sanford T. Cook Obituary

MASSENA – Mr. Sanford T. “Sandy” Cook, 61, of Cook Street, unexpectedly passed away early Thursday morning, September 29, 2016.

Sandy was born March 15, 1955 in Buffalo, the son of the late Stillman and Jane Lucille Sanford Cook and was a graduate of Honeoye Falls High School. Shortly after graduating, he moved to the Massena area, where he started working at WMSA Radio as a copyrighter and part time News Director. He later became an announcer and started “Sandy’s Morning Extravaganza,” of which he directed for many years and totaled over 40 years on the radio with many years being known as the “Voice of Massena.”

Sandy also dedicated countless hours broadcasting many sporting events for the communities of Massena and Akwesasne and within the Section X Conference. In addition to broadcasting, he also coached soccer and basketball for Massena and Salmon River, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sandy devoted much of his talent to the Massena community, as Master of Ceremony for countless events, one term as Town of Massena Supervisor, Massena Meals on Wheels, Massena Central Drama Club – to list a few. As many know, he may have been the most dedicated Buffalo Bills fan.

Sandy is survived by his aunts, Lois Costello of Plymouth, Wisconsin; Leona and Elda Cook of Akwesasne; his step-brothers, Larry and Janine Cook of Akwesasne and Tom Cook of Pennsylvania; his cousins, Kathryn L. Costello of Manassas, Virginia; Kristine C. and Thomas Alsheskie and Plymouth, Wisconsin; Thomas M. and Kari Costello II of Manassas, Virginia; Karalynne C. Temporato of Avon, New York; and his extended family in Akwesasne.

Sandy was predeceased by his parents and his uncles, Eugene and Roy Sanford.
