ROBIN L. SMITH


MASSENA- Robin L. Smith, 53, of 191 Fregoe Road, peacefully passed away at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, on September 17, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones.


Robin was born May 2, 1963 in Canton, daughter of Ronald E. Charleson and the late Annie Louise Bellinger. She was a graduate of St. Lawrence Central School and also studied at Mater Dei College. She married Louis Smith Sr. in Hopkinton.


She was a homemaker, whose love and passion was for her children and family. She loved being a stay at home mom, and was very attentive to their needs and nurturing. Throughout their lives, and the lives of her grandchildren, she was known to be very caring and was even known to send just the right package to someone at just the right time. She loved and cared for so many, and as a very giving and generous person, who was known to go without for someone else to have.


Robin is survived by her children, Casandra Smith and Jeffrey Brown of Massena; Jacqueline Smith and Joseph Jacobs of Syracuse; Louis Smith and Keitha Durant of Massena; Charles Aldon Smith, Mitchell Smith and Michelle Smith, all of Massena; and a step-daughter, Sherry Shingler and Paul Brown of Canton; and many other chosen children she cared for over the years; her five grandchildren Camden and Ronnie Smith; Evan Clark, Michael Jacobs and Kamara Rafter; three great grandchildren; and her father Ronald E. Charleson of Hopkinton.


She is also survived by her sisters, Marlene L.M. and Clayton Pickering of North Lawrence; Katheralina Daniels of Jacksonville, FL; Ellen Hendershot of Philadelphia, NY; her brother Raymond J. and Rose Charleson of Potsdam; her half brothers and sisters, Charinee (Ben) Charleson-Wells of Potsdam; Penny Wright of Rhode Island; Ed (Mona) Charleson Sr., of Winthrop; Alan Charleson of Potsdam; Ronald “Joe” (Jean) Charleson of Winthrop; Christopher (Kelly) Charleson of Potsdam; Edward S (Karen) Charleson of Colorado; Clarence Wright of Massena; Brian Wright; and various other step brothers and sisters; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.


In addition to her mother, Robin was predeceased by a son, Michael Smith; a chosen son, Roy Barney, and her step father, Clarence E. Wright.


Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
