<p>RAYMOND P. BARNEY, SR.</p><p><br></p><p>MASSENA – Mr. Raymond P. Barney, Sr., 87, formerly of 148 Liberty Ave, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday evening, August 3, 2016 at Massena Memorial Hospital.</p><p><br></p><p>Ray was born October 19, 1928 in Brasher Iron Works, the son of the late Willis and Pearl Rubado Barney and attended rural schools in Brasher Iron Works. Ray entered the US Army on February 20, 1951 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on January 23, 1953. On September 16, 1951, he married Mary Jane Amo at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massena. They cherished 64 years together until her passing on July 12th. </p><p><br></p><p>Ray was an equipment operator for the Town of Brasher Highway Department for 40 years. He and Mary Jane were foster parents to many throughout the years. He was communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4. He and his late wife enjoyed camping and wintered many years in Florida with their camper. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. </p><p><br></p><p>Ray is survived his children, Raymond Barney, Jr. of Massena; Ronnie and Sue Barney of Brasher; Kathy Stowell of Brasher; Randy Barney and his companion, Lorie of Massena; Matt Barney and his companion, Luanne of Brasher; Gary and Valerie Amo of Helena; and Dale and Debbie Amo of Stockholm; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters, Judy Rubado of Brasher and Lorraine Spoor of Rhode Island; his precious doggie, Molly and cat, Coonie; and many nieces and nephews. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his wife and parents, Ray was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Lacombe on January 26, 2016; a son-in-law, Richard W. Stowell on September 13, 2008; his brothers, Willis Jr., Leon Sr., Edward, and Reggie Barney.</p><p><br></p><p>At his request, there will be no calling hours. A joint graveside service for Ray and Mary Jane will be held at a time to be announced at Calvary Cemetery, Massena.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Regis Nursing Home Activities Fund.</p><p><br></p><p>Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonfh.com.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
