Leo A. Paquin

<p>MASSENA – Mr. Leo A. Paquin, 86, of 228 Andrews Street, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2016 at Massena Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. </p><p><br></p><p>Leo was born March 13, 1930 in Massena, the son of the late Raoul T. and Jeanne M. Villeneuve Paquin. Leo first attend St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart School before graduating in 1949 from Massena High School. After graduation, he entered the US Navy, serving his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1953. He continued to serve his country for four more years in the Naval Reserves. After discharging from the Navy, he attended Cortland State Teachers College for a year. In 1955, he married Norma Wolcott at St. Joseph’s Church in Massena with Msgr. Harold Skelly officiating. </p><p><br></p><p>Leo worked for Niagara Mohawk, first starting in Massena as a janitor, before becoming a meter reader. He later transferred to Potsdam where he worked in the maintenance department. He retired due to disability after 20 years of service. Leo was a communicant of the Church of Sacred Heart and when younger was a Scout Master with Troop #56 in Raymondville. Also, while he was younger, he enjoyed boxing, golfing, baseball, and football. He was inducted into the Massena High School Hall of Fame with his football team. He enjoyed camping, walking, and was a great storyteller. Leo was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who greatly cherished the memories he made with them.</p><p><br></p><p>Leo is survived by his wife, Norma; his children, Steven Paquin of Houston, Texas; Daniel Paquin of Massena; and Susan and Larry Villnave of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Brad, Travis, Jared, and Kaitlyn; his great grandchildren, Hailey, Dawson, Garrett, Chance, and Charley; his sister-in-laws, Carmen Paquin, Laurel Ann Paquin, and Ellen Paquin, all of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Armand “Pete”, Robert, Ivan, and Fernand “Archie” Paquin; and his sister, Muriel Corcoran. </p><p><br></p><p>A celebration of his life will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, with a prayer service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tojo Chocko, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena. </p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
