John M. Kormanyos

<p>MASSENA – Mr. John M. “Jake” Kormanyos, 89, of 13 Somerset Street, passed away Friday evening, July 1, 2016 at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 2 weeks. </p><p><br></p><p>Jake was born September 22, 1926 in Massena, the son of the late Laszlo and Barbara Gabri Kormanyos and was a 1944 graduate of Massena High School. After graduation, Jake worked locally until January 22, 1945, when he entered the US Army where he was a staff sergeant in Italy with Company A 752nd Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1946. </p><p><br></p><p>After his discharge from the Army, he returned back to Massena, where he continued to work at various jobs until 1951 when he started his career at Alcoa. He continued there in the clerical department for 30 years, retiring in May 1981. Throughout his life Jake was a caregiver, caring for many family members over the years in their time of need. Jake was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for over 40 years and participated in various church activities throughout the years. He was also active volunteer with the Massena Museum throughout his life and had a great fondness for genealogy. Jake enjoyed several sporting activities especially softball and bowling, where he was on an Alcoa bowling league for many years. </p><p><br></p><p>Jake is survived his sister, Margaret Bocskor of Ogdensburg and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Gyorgy, Boriska, Mariska, Steve, Joseph, George, and Julia Kormanyos; Elizabeth Dupray, and Helen Dart.</p><p><br></p><p>Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Reilly, celebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
