MASSENA – Mrs. Doris J. Fisher, 93, a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home and formerly of County Route 39, passed away Sunday evening, August 7, 2016 at the nursing home.

Doris was born July 5, 1923 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of the late John and Edna Waterman Fretwell. After the death of her mother, she was adopted and raised in Canada by her grandparents, Glasford and Gussy Fretwell. She attended and graduated schools in Prescott, Ontario. On October 12, 1942, she married James R. Fisher at the United Church in Prescott with Rev. Coburn, officiating. He predeceased her on October 12, 2001.

Doris was a sales clerk, first at Newberry’s in Ogdensburg and later with the Boston Store in Massena for many years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Doris truly enjoyed maintaining her lawns, watching nature, knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles, and reading. She also cherished the time she spent visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Garceau of Massena; Richard Fisher of Gouverneur; and Carol Fisher of Ohio; eight grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and her sister, Laurie Waugh of New Mexico.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Doris was predeceased by a sister and brother.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family with burial in Massena Center Cemetery.
