Ann E. (Ash) Young Obituary

MASSENA – Mrs. Ann E. (Ash) Young, 76, 61 Parker Ave, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, October 3, 2016 at her home.


Ann was born September 27, 1940 in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Earl Everett and Marion E. Ferris Worley. She attended Norwood-Norfolk Central School. On March 28, 1959, she married Rufus R. Ash at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert U. Holmes, officiating. He predeceased her on October 26, 1987. On April 20, 2013, she married her longtime companion, Scott Young at their home.


Ann was a homemaker and bartended at several local establishments over 40 years. She received great comfort in being around her family and loving pets. She also loved ceramics and crocheting. She was former member of TOPS #272 and the AMVETS Auxiliary.


She is survived by her husband, Scott; her sister, Patricia Thompson of Lowville; her brother, James and Judy Worley of Carthage; her children, Judy and Royas Barney of Brasher Falls; Karen and Larry Donaldson of Massena; Edward and Brenda Ash of Norfolk; her step-daughter, Sarah (Young) Grasso of Mystic, CT; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and her husband, Rufus, Ann was predeceased by two sons, John E. Ash on January 20, 1996 and Stephen Lloyd Ash on August 22, 2004; two grandchildren, Roy Rufus Barney on December 16, 2007 and Stephen R. Barney on October 20, 2013; her brothers, Arthur John, Earl Jr., and Rev. David W. Worley; and her sister, Joan Bush.


Friends may call Monday 4-6:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM with Pastor Rachael Jordan, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery.


Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the Massena Humane Society.
