Alfred Pomainville Obituary

MASSENA- Alfred Pomainville, 86, of 331 Gladding Road, peacefully answered Jesus’ final call to join him in heaven, Monday, July 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family and with care from Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Alfred was born September 19, 1929, in Crysler, Ontario, son of the late Simeon and Maria Vanier Pomainville. He attended schools and some college in Ontario, Canada. He married Alice A. Dube on September 11, 1954 in Finch, Ontario, with Fr. O’Brien officiating.

He worked for White’s Dairy up until it closed. Alfred owned and operated his dairy farm from 1976 until retirement in 1989. But he continued to work his hobby Miniature Horse Farm for many years; a farm which included Bantam chickens, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.

Alfred was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Council #1141. He also belonged to the American Miniature Horse Association, and the Poultry Association. He was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, who loved the game of hockey, and playing family hockey games. He enjoyed playing cards, socializing with people, and square dancing on Saturday nights. But most of all, he cherished his time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; his five children, Dianne Pomainville of Massena; Louise and Daniel LaPlante of Norwood; Irene and Carl Haverstock of Norfolk; Philip and his companion Betty White of Massena; and Gisele Fleury and her companion Bud Shorette of Louisville; five grandsons, Jeremy, Matthew and Sean LaPlante, and Joshua and Todd Fleury; five great granddaughters, Hailey LaPlante, Paige Safin, Monique Rood, Isabella Jandreau, and Autumn Jandreau; two sisters, Cecile Rafter of Massena; Alice and Richard Thut of Shelburne, VT; and two brothers, Alcide Pomainville of Florida; and Roger and Francine Pomainville of Norfolk.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents Simeon and Maria; and two brothers, Leo Pomainville on December 24, 2014; and Rheal Pomainville on January 10, 2016.

Friends may call at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Saturday from 10-11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Jack Downs, celebrating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred’s memory to Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley.
