Jasmine Purvis Obituary

Jasmine Maria Purvis was born March 31, 1994 to Tori L. Morton and Marlon Purvis-Felder. The day she was born was the happiest day of most of our lives as she was the baby girl, our very own Princess Jasmine. Her skin was slightly sun kissed and she had hair as dark as the night sky but her eyes were as bright as any star. Jasmine was born with a rare medical condition with low expectations of survival, but, with such a resilient spirit she proved every doctor and medical professional wrong. Although her condition limited her while growing up, it still did not stop her from doing whatever she wanted whenever she wanted. Jasmine was a free spirited person. She was a loving sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece and as her nephew Caleb would put it “the bestest Auntie in the whole wide world”. She was a lover of all things sweet, specifically candy. If she could survive on just that she definitely would have. From very young we all knew that Jasmine was a special child. Her imagination was her escape where she would tune out the world and all things bad just to create beautiful works of art. Her love for art and cartoons also displayed an obsession of all things Japanese. She always said she was going to move to Tokyo the first chance she got even though she didn’t know how to speak the language. At no time was Jasmine ever afraid to speak her mind or make light of any serious situation. Her comedic timing and slapstick humor would have even the most anal person keeling over with laughter. Jasmine knew how to have fun whether it was singing bad karaoke with a green tutu on or walking the streets and running errands in a cookie monster onesie. There was nothing that could slow her down, not even being sick. With her family behind her and her older sister Alicia by her side, Jasmine began a hectic routine of surgeries and many doctors’ visits. She spent most if not all of her teenage years in and out of the hospital and unfortunately in that time she lost her sister and her best friend, Alicia Purvis. It took many nights of crying and much needed support for Jasmine to begin to live again. She had aspirations of owning a nail salon then wanting to be a pastry chef to being a YouTube star and everyone would know her name. Instead, Jasmine became the most eclectic, free spirited and colorful person any of us have come to know. She loved her nephew like he was her own son going as far as referring to herself as his “Auntie-Mommy”. She was a confidant to her sister Jessica and her brother Emanuel and a shoulder to cry on for her mother. Jasmine always said if she was to die tomorrow, she never wanted to regret not living, so she did in the best possible way she knew how. Jasmine was a shining light, with a dark sense of humor but a big loving heart and we will forever and always have her in ours. Jasmine leaves behind her mother Tori, father Marlon, oldest sister Jessica, baby brother Emanuel, nephew Caleb and her loving grandmother Patricia. Her loving support system and the ones who were always there: her Aunt Brenda, Uncle Troy and a slew of friends. We will always love you Jasmine.
