Henry Monroe Obituary

In the early morning hour of Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, God called Henry home. He whispered softly to him, “You are my beloved child, cease from suffering. I will give you rest.” Henry was born on March 25, 1938 in Hoke County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Lot Monroe, Sr. and Viola McNair Monroe. Henry attended and graduated from Raeford High School in Raeford, North Carolina. In 1960 Henry relocated from North Carolina to New York where he met and married Jean Robinson from Virginia. From this union was born two sons and one daughter. Henry was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, and his son, Terrance. For almost 40 years Henry worked for Consolidated Laundry in Brooklyn, New York. In 1998 Henry decided he had worked in water long enough retired on disability from Consolidated Laundry. He could now fully enjoy his life with his sons, daughter, grandchildren, family and friends. After the death of his son Terrance, Henry moved to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania with his daughter and her family. Henry was a very humble man who was loved and cherished by everyone. His most enjoyment was his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Leaving to cherish his memories is his son, Steven Monroe, his daughter, Lenal Payne, son-in-law, James Payne, daughter-in-law, Gladys Canty, six grandchildren, Jared Jones, Janel Monroe, Danielle Cuiman, Jametrice Payne, Jaylin Payne and Alaisa Monroe, two great-grandchildren, Essence Pierre-Antoine and Jaden Jones, one sister, Helen McRae, two sisters-in-law, Thelma Randolph and Sherly Fowkes, and a host of nieces, nephews grand-nieces and nephew, great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
