J. Lynn Martin, was born March 11th, 1942, in Leslie, Georgia and was the youngest of eight children born to the late Henry Sr., and Amis Carter Martin. Six (6) siblings preceded him in death. He accepted and received Christ into his life at an early age and became a member of Bethel Baptist Church in DeSota, Georgia. He received his early education in Leslie, GA and migrated to NY in 1958, where he attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, in Brooklyn, NY. Upon completion of High school, he worked several different jobs finally deciding to join the United States Army in Oct 1967 as a Field Communication Specialist serving in Camp Red Cloud, South Korea. After his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, he returned to school attending Both LaGuardia Community College and Berk Trade School earning his Plumbing certification. Deacon Martin, joined Shiloh Baptist Church in 1972, under the leadership of Reverend John K. Brewington. Deacon J. Lynn Martin met and married the love of his life Wilhelmenia (Menia) Martin, in Queens, NY, and they raised four well rounded children, Derrick, Michelle and the twins Lynn and Lynette Martin. Deacon Martin was a no non-sense, straight shooter and sharp tongue person who always spoke his mind and expressed his opinion without reservation. More than anything, he was a great Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend and provider. There is no such thing as a short conversation with Deacon Martin, he always had a story to tell, words of encouragement or advise to give and a listening ear for everyone. Whenever you’re in a conversation with Deacon Martin be prepared to discuss, cars, sports, church and his family. He retired in March 2003 as a Transit Authority Collection Agent (Money Train) for the NY City Transit Authority. Deacon Martin was also a member of Lebanon Lodge #54, Free & Accepted Prince Hall Mason's. At 6:45 am On Saturday, July 2nd, 2016, at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, New York, Deacon J.
