Annie Catlin was born to Ned Catlin and Addie Lee Allen on January 20, 1933, in Jasper, Alabama. She was the youngest of 3 girls. Her sister Willie Margaret being the oldest and her sister Endie being the second child. On May 16, 1952, Ann graduated from Walker County Training School in Jasper, Alabama. Not even an hour after graduating from high school she left Alabama for Chicago looking for work. Ann worked in Chicago for a few months before moving to New York City after being told about another job offer. Not long after moving to New York City Ann met Okey Hammonds Sr. On March 28, 1954 they married. During their marriage Ann bore 3 beautiful children; Okey Jr, Barbara and Laverne. Ann and her family settled in Far Rockaway, N.Y. there she worked at Neponsit Nursing Home as a head dietician. She later transferred to Surfside Nursing Home where she was employed for over 15 years. During this time she also took classes at Suffolk Community College. Later Ann accepted a position at the Afro American II Day Care Center in Jamaica Queen. She worked here until she retired. Summer of 1989, while working at the day care, she started R.E.A.L. catering services with 3 other friends. She also catered for her nephews restaurant Intelligent House in Hartford, CT form 1998*1992. Ann loved to cook; she made some of the best dishes you ever tasted. Her food kept you coming back for more and it always warmed your soul. Ann had a bright, beautiful smile with a very big heart to match. Anything she had was yours. To her loved ones in Alabama she was known as “Nick” the sweet but very feisty girl. To everyone else, she was NANA, our love, our life and our everything. Ann is loved dearly and she will be missed unconditionally. Her 3 children Okey Hammonds Jr., Barbara Hammonds-Pogue and Laverne Hammonds-Jackson have preceded her in death. She leaves behind 3 Grandchildren; Mecca Jackson, Sean Jackson, and Jeanean Hammonds, 1 daughter Geania Hammonds, 1 sister Nettie Jean Gibson and 2 brothers William Catlin and Alfred Alphonso Catlin. Ann also had 4 other siblings that preceded her in death, Willie Margaret Jordan, Endie Hammonds, Annie Mary Wilson and Lewis Catlin. 2 son in laws Robert Jackson and Walter Jackson (no relation). Ann has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she leaves behind
