Michael J. McHugh

Michael J. McHugh, 90, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1994 and formerly of the Bronx, died peacefully on October 11, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in County Leitrim, Ireland on June 17, 1926, he was the son of Michael and Mary Lyons McHugh. Michael was employed as a lineman by New York Telephone in Manhattan for 34 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, and previously a parishioner of St. Brendan’s Church in the Bronx. He and his wife were former members of the Bedford Shamrock Club in the Bronx. On June 25, 1955 in New York City, Michael married Annie Quinn who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Clare and Thomas Moran of Hopewell Junction, Michael and Palma McHugh of Cortlandt Manor, Bernadette McHugh and John Biroldi of Yorktown Heights, Gerard “Gerry” and Eileen McHugh of Somers, and Brian and Linda McHugh of Massapequa; his grandchildren, Thomas Moran, Alana Moran and husband David, Brendan Moran, Luke Biroldi, Kara Biroldi, Michael McHugh, Matthew McHugh, Christina McHugh, Angela McHugh, Kayla McHugh, John McHugh and Kerry McHugh; his great-grandchild, Gabriel Moran; and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
