<p>Jerry Leonard Scheffler died at home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 18, 2009, in Wappingers Falls, NY after a long illness. <br />&nbsp;He was born in Hamburg, NY on July 23, 1931, son of the late Arnold E. and Margaret G. Finkle Scheffler.&nbsp; Mr. Scheffler attended schools in Hamburg, NY, graduating from Woodlawn High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and then was employed by IBM until his retirement. During his retirement, he was an avid woodworker who enjoyed designing and creating many beautiful objects, many of which he donated to local and national charitable organizations.<br />&nbsp;On February 2, 1952, he married Joan Marguerite Spencer, who predeceased him on January 19, 2004. <br />&nbsp;He is survived by four children, Cheryl Scheffler of Hopewell Junction, NY; William Scheffler of Parker, CO; Patricia Tetrault of Hopewell Junction, NY; Robert Scheffler and his wife, Janet of Wellsville, NY; grandchildren Paul Kutz, Jr., Ronald Kutz, Michael Scheffler, Anna Godek, Allison Tetrault, Aleksandr Scheffler and Nickolas Scheffler. Mr. Scheffler is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and one great, great- granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard.<br />&nbsp;Jerry will be remembered by many people with whom he shared his love of nature, woodworking, photography, hunting and fishing.<br />&nbsp;Calling hours will be held on Tuesday December 22nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, followed by the&nbsp;memorial service at 8:00 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; Additional calling hours will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29th at Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 4199 Lakeshore Road, Hamburg, NY.&nbsp; Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeside Memorial Park.&nbsp; <br />&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Foundation, Inc., 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538 or Bluebird Recovery Program of Minnesota, P.O. Box 984, Faribault, MN 55021.</p>
