Maria DeSalvador Obituary

Maria Luisa Olivier DeSalvador, died Sunday the 21st of August at White Plains Hospital. She was 98. Born on January 13, 1918 in Castellavazzo, Belluno, Italy, Maria immigrated to the Bronx in 1957 with her family and worked as a custodian in the burn unit at Jacobi Medical Center until retiring in 1982. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Greenburgh, NY with her daughter and son-in-law to be a caregiver for her granddaughter. Maria had been a member of the senior program at Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh and was considered by many the unofficial mayor of Granada Condominium, where she lived for more than 30 years. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards, knitting, and gardening. Maria loved her family, good (Italian) food, and socializing, and had a wonderful and comforting smile that warmed the hearts of all who knew her. Maria is survived by her two children, Attilio Paul DeSalvador and his wife, Toni, of Carmel, NY, and Emilia “Mia” Cantelmo and her husband, Jim, of Greenburgh, NY; three grandchildren, Gina Cantelmo of Greenburgh, NY, Jessica DeSalvador and her fiancé, Alex Santos, of North Providence, RI, and Paul DeSalvador of Danbury, CT; and many nieces and nephews both in the States and in Italy. She is predeceased by her husband and eight siblings. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 2-5 and 7-9 PM at Sisto Funeral Home (3489 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:30 AM at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church (2969 Otis Avenue, Bronx, NY). Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery.
