Mary Katherine “Kathy” Szasz, 53, passed away Saturday evening April 23, 2016 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, NY. Born in Amsterdam, NY; on December 30, 1962, she was the daughter of Louis Szasz who survives and the late Margaret Hartney Szasz. Mary Katherine received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She also received her associate’s degree in Applied Science from Fulton Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY. Mary Katherine was employed as a clerical worker for MVP Healthcare in Schenectady and also worked for Amsterdam Printing & Litho Company in Amsterdam. Mary Katherine was a former parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. She was a former member of the Irish American Club. Mary Katherine was also a proud recipient, receiving her Black Belt in Martial Arts. She was an avid music lover who enjoyed playing guitar and going to concerts. Mary Katherine is survived by her father, Louis Szasz, one son, Jacob Delli Veneri both of Amsterdam, two nieces, Kristi Lynn Adkins and Stephanie Marie Szasz. Aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Mary Katherine was also predeceased by her brother, Louis John Szasz. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary. Memorial gifts in Mary Katherine’s name may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Society, 1 Marcus Blvd. Albany, NY 12205.
