Marjorie Brown Obituary

Brown, Marjorie S., 89 of Margate, passed away on October 20, 2016. Born in Absecon, she grew up in Ventnor and graduated from Atlantic City High School. After World War II, Marty married George Roland Brown, Jr. who was from prominent American families, including the Morton and Ireland families. Marjorie and Roland first resided in Syracuse, NY where she worked for the telephone company. After returning to South Jersey, she worked as a professional decorator for many area florists, including PJ Mooney & Sons, and Fischer Flowers. Marty was very active in All Saints Church in Atlantic City, where she taught first and second grade, and made sure all the children had a proper religious upbringing. An advocate for all animals, she especially loved dogs and cats, and was an officer for SPCA and worked many years for the Humane Society. Marty encouraged volunteering in all aspects, and donating whenever one could. She also loved the beach and nature, and spending time with her family. She was also known for building the Margate Ball Field. Predeceased by her husband of 30 years, George Roland Brown, Jr.; her son, Kenneth Shaner Brown; and her grandson, Adam Roland Brown. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Roland (Bonnie Kopera Brown) and Rodger A. Brown; her grandchildren, Annalise, Derek M., and Kenneth Shaner, Jr.; and one great grandson, Revan Richard; and two sisters, Phyllis Elmer and Elaine Gustavson. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 1:00pm at Margate Community Church, 8900 Ventnor Ave., Margate. Burial will be held privately.
