Jeffrey Slocum Northfield, New Jersey Obituary

Jeffrey Slocum

Slocum, Jeffrey Martin On the evening of September 17, 2016, Jeff Slocum passed away at Shore Medical Center. He was 73 years old. Jeff was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was the first child of Leslie and Leona Slocum. Jeff was a caring and loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. His sister Ellen describes when he took her hand at 5 years old and walked her to her first day at school. He was the perfect big brother, making sure the kids on the playground treated her well. This was a theme that ran through the rest of their lives; Jeff the big brother watching out for his sister. Jeff was the neighborhood athlete growing up. Neighborhood kids came from blocks away for the joy of playing wiffle ball with the boy they looked up to. He was well liked by friends and coworkers, and respected in every job he performed. He worked for many years at Sandson’s Bakery in a managerial position. He then went on to work for years at Harrison’s Beverage, also in a managerial position. His work ethic was well recognized by his employers and colleagues. In retirement, he worked part-time for Helping Hands Behavioral Health, where he was known for the compassion he extended to the clients he served. Jeff was devoted to family. He loved his wife Ruth and his three stepdaughters. Family get-togethers at cousin Marcia’s brought him joy. He loved sharing memories and could always come up with funny stories to entertain. Jeff loved music and musical theater, a fondness he shared with his mother. Jeff one time went to 5 Broadway shows in Manhattan within 3 days, and was ready for more on the fourth day. He also liked following politics, and had a special interest in American History. He could rattle off historical dates and events as if he’d lived in those times. Jeff is survived by his wife Ruth Slocum; his sister Ellen Slocum; and his three step-daughters Danielle Hertzlieb, Lisa Darcusio, and Jacqui Milan; and his special cousin Marcia Portnoy. There will be a private service for family. Arrangements entrusted to and condolences may be left for his family at: adams-perfect.com
