Robert J. Harrison, died July 25, 2016. He was born in Neptune, NJ. He distinguished himself in the areas of education, affirmative action, contract compliance, equal employment opportunity, lobbying and publishing. Mr. Harrison’s professional career began in the Asbury Park School District as a teacher and assistant track coach at Asbury Park High School. His other positions included: Director of Youth and Special Programs at the Monmouth County Summer Youth Program; Project Specialist and State Coordinator with the New Jersey Department of Human Services; Director of Human Resources and Minority Affairs of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency; Chief Legislative Aide to the late Assemblyman Thomas Smith, Owner of legislative firm, Governmental Solutions Group, and Publisher of Shore African American Magazine. He served on various boards and received numerous awards. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, H. Sue; a son, Nicholas; a grandson, Nick-Nick; sisters, Wilma Vassell (Berris), Carolyn Holland and Betty Roach; and brothers-in-law, Harry S. Butler, Jr. and Howard S. Butler. Visitation will be held on Saturday July 30 from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. The family invites you to write a letter of condolence or share story by selecting the appropriate tab.
