Robert J. Cooper, age 79 of Oceanport, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at home. Born and raised in Long Branch, he had moved to Oceanport in 1962. He served our Country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Robert was a French Teacher for the Point Pleasant Boro Board of Education for 32 years retiring in 1999, past head lifeguard for the Asbury Park Beach, a swim coach for the Asbury Park YMCA , a swim pro at the Navesink Country Club and a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Long Branch. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucette Cooper; his daughter, Babette Zschiegner and her husband Stephen; his brother, Richard Lyle Cooper and two grandchildren, Zachary and Alexander. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29 from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 am at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue (corner of Third Avenue) in Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth County S.P.C.A., P.O. 93, Eatontown, NJ 07724.The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
