Joseph C. Famulary Obituary

Joseph C. Famulary of Berkeley passed away on July 24, 2016. He was 96. Born in Long Branch, he subsequently lived in several New Jersey towns, including Red Bank, Elizabeth and Bridgewater. He was a graduate of Red Bank High School Class of 1937. He was a former advertising manager of the Elizabeth Daily Journal where he worked for 22 years before leaving to become director of advertising and public relations for the Elizabethtown Gas Company for 15 years. He retired to Hickory, NC in 1985 and returned to New Jersey in 2007. During World War II, he served as a rifleman in the 30th Infantry Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He landed in Normandy on D Day plus 9 and saw combat action in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. He was awarded three Bronze Battle Stars. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, the former Joan P. Woodruff of Elizabeth and his brother, John. Survivors include a son, Joseph L. of Lenoir, NC; a daughter, Nancy L Wolf of Lakewood: two brothers: Russell of Pennsylvania and Philip of Eatontown; a sister, Teresa Moody of Long Branch; three grandchildren, Jessica Matthews, Crystal Aiken and Sherry Mikeal and five great grandchildren, McKenna Lynne, Luke Elias, Phoebe Rose, Logan Elliot, Landon Elliot and Jonathon Joseph Mikeal. Funeral services were held in Hickory NC, however a memorial service will be held at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch on Sunday, August 14 from 2 pm until the time of the service at 3:30 pm.
