Pt. Pleasant: James “Jim” Dolan, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 with his loving family at his side. Born in Hoboken, he was raised in Union City and has resided in Pt. Pleasant since 1960. Jim and his wife, Marjorie were married at St. Michael’s Monastery in Union City in 1959. Jim retired as a school Principal from Washington Street Elementary School in Toms River where he was also a teacher and administrator earlier in his career. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie; his children, Michael Dolan and his wife, Susan, Jim Dolan, Lisa Filtz and her fiancé, Dr. George Kata and Frank Dolan and his wife, Kimberly; his brothers, Thomas, Edward and William Dolan; his sisters, Maureen DeFonce and Mary Russo; and his six grandchildren, Emily, Matthew and Colleen Dolan, Kerry Filtz, and Jolie and Tyler Dolan. He is predeceased by his siblings, Jack, Ann and Ella. Among many things he was a polio survivor, an athlete, principal, leader, role model, sports fan, member of the Rutgers Newark basketball team, coach, poker player and friend. He always had a joke to tell and smile to give. His passion was his family and he was beyond proud of all their accomplishments and successes. He was a life-long NY Giants, Yankees and Boston Celtics fan and enjoyed playing poker with his many friends in Atlantic City. A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 6-9 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory be made to Point Boro First Aid Squad, 1200 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742.
