Eleanor Lesieur Obituary

Eleanor Foley Lesieur, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home July 19, 2016 with family by her side. Beloved wife of 64 years to Roland Lesieur and devoted mother of Steven Lesieur and his wife Carmen, Mark Lesieur, Larry Lesieur and Cheryl Appelstein and her husband Charlie. Loving grandmother known as “Nana” to Lynn, Abbie, Brian and his fiancée Jenn, Natalie and her fiancé Nick, Erik and Julie. Other family members include her brother, Robert Foley, her sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Maynard, Madeleine Gingras, Elinor Lesieur, Polly Foley and a brother-in-law William Hollander. Also survived by many caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Foley Hollander and her daughter-in-law, Laura Jean Bragg Lesieur. She primarily lived in Nashua and for a brief time in Arlington, MA. She was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1949 and was the long time Secretary for Class Reunions for many years later. After high school, she attended the New England School of Art in Boston. She retired from her art career once married with children. She was always a very artistic person – able to paint, sew and design beautiful items from her imagination. As an empty nester, she attended doll making classes where she learned to restore antique dolls and create molds for her own porcelain dolls. She also created and sewed an elaborate wardrobe for these dolls. Her talents were many in the artistic world, but the one she will be remembered for most is her ability to wrap a gift and making the wrapping equally important to any gift inside. Recipients oftentimes would not want to open the gift. She spent many hours shopping for and wrapping Christmas gifts and her family and friends were always blessed to have such a beautiful array of decorations in their home on Christmas morning because she left no details missing. She loved Christmas, and always wanted to make it equally exciting for her family. Everything was perfect – from the Spode Christmas china, to the ever insistence for a “real Christmas tree” every year, to the homemade Christmas stockings hung on the fireplace mantel. Christmas will never be the same without her. One of the things that made her the happiest were her trips to Foxwoods with her close friend, Kay Temple and her sister-in-law, Jackie Maynard. They usually went two or three times a year to celebrate birthdays. It never mattered who won or lost, they always had a great time. She seemed to have a knack for winning and loved to tell family which slot machine gave her the best payout, although her losses were never heard about, she always “broke even”. Another special place was Spruce Harbor in Stonington, Maine where she spent many summers as a child and later in life having vacationed there for the last 15 years. It was a place filled with memories for her while watching the ever changing ocean, looking for sea glass, and admiring the lupines flowering every June. In 2002, she was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and was told she had 2-3 years to live. Miraculously the progression was dormant until 2015 when her heart grew weaker from the years of her lungs being incapacitated. She will always be remembered as a strong, determined, loving wife, mom, grandmother and friend. The family would like to thank all the people who helped them along the way in this difficult journey and want to express their gratitude to all the angels here on earth – and there are many! They would like to recognize the staff of St. Joseph’s Coumadin clinic, Dr. Stefan and Dr. Golosarsky, the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital who helped stabilize her during the holidays, the staff at Courville Rehab Home who helped her to return home, the Hospice team (especially Nurse Michelle) who provided support in every way, and to the family’s loving home caretaker, Mary, without whom her time at home wouldn’t have been possible. We embrace everyone for their kindness shown to the Lesieur family and especially Ele. SERVICES: As per the family wishes a private funeral service in her honor will be held at their convenience. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial donation to the charity of their choice.
