She worked as a nanny for families in New York, and White Plains before becoming a Dental Technician for a Dentist in New York City. Her favorite movie was “The Sound of Music”. She loved to read; especially history books and auto biographies and biographies. Mor Mor was famous and loved because of the delicious Norwegian dishes she made for family and friends. Mor Mor loved whipping cream and chocolate anything and Marsipan Pigs. And most popular, her decorated Christmas cookies. Eirin Sapi, who is Bruno’s niece in Norway, said it best about Mor Mor – She adored her sons and loved her entire family. Her charming, big smile and charisma always made everyone welcome anytime. When she visited with friends and family, she laughed and shared memories of Norway and her adopted country, the United States. She never forgot her Norwegian language and kept every little Norwegian thing as a treasure. It was important for her to keep the Norwegian traditions. She was proud and grateful for all the good years in the United States and for everything that the family was able to create there. Oystein Husoe, one of her nephews, has many dear memories of his aunt. For several years after arriving in the United States, she struggled financially but she never forgot all her nieces and nephews in the old country. There were many difficult years after WWII in Norway, and aunt Helen always managed to send gifts of candy and toys to her many nieces and nephews. We will Love and miss you always Mor Mor and will keep your memories and traditions alive forever.
