Edward Barry Kirkwood, Missouri Obituary

Edward Barry

Edward James Barry, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Aug. 26, following a Cardinals victory. Dearest husband of the late Jeanne (Eichorn) Barry and beloved to Patsy Winter. Loving father of Lynn (Tim) LaChance, Ed (Cory) Barry and Ann Barry. Proud Papa to John, Colleen and Patrick Barry and Jack, Nick and Lily LaChance. A cherished friend to Patsy’s children; Kelly (Bruce) Greer, Perrin (Mark) Walker, Tammy (Tom) Walsh, Gibby (Kathy) Winter, Cindy (Kurt) Jones, Mary Martha (Rodney) Williams and Joe (Christine) Winter. Dear Mr. Ed to all Patsy’s grandchildren. Dear uncle and cherished friend to many. Born on Aug. 7,1930, Ed was the only child of Edward and Julia (Higgins) Barry. He grew up in a small Webster Groves farmhouse, playing endless hours of baseball on a makeshift diamond in the back field. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1948, Ed was drafted to play professional baseball. He spent time with the Cardinals and the Giants before being drafted again, this time by Uncle Sam. In 1951, he joined the Air Force and proudly served during the Korean War. Ed returned home and met his adored Jeanne, who shared his life for 37 years. Ed earned his bachelor’s and MBA from SLU. He worked in sales for almost 60 years, first with International Paper and then as President of Parkway Packaging. Ed loved baseball, both playing and coaching, and was inducted into the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and the St. Mary’s High School Hall of Fame. Ed was passionate about golf and considered it a good salesman’s responsibility to work tirelessly on the game. He cherished his family and friends, trips to Macon, Mo. and Destin, Fl., annual float trips, and his season tickets to the Big Red and Billikens Basketball. Ed was loved for his quick Irish wit, corny jokes, sparkling blue eyes and infectious smile. Ed loved greatly and was greatly loved by all who knew him. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. at Incarnate Word Catholic Church, Chesterfield. Contributions to Pathways to Independence and St. Mary’s High School Legacy Scholarship Fund are appreciated.
