George John Barbosa, 68 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m., following the family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Donations may be made in his name to the St. Mark’s Missions. George was born August 12, 1948 in Laredo, TX to George A. and Maria Delia (Espinosa) Barbosa. He proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam. He had worked as a cable slicer for SW Bell for 35 years until he retired in 2002. He was a member of the St. Mark’s Catholic Church and a member of the Mission Board at the church. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed traveling and most of all spending time with his family. Survivors include: his loving wife, Patti of the home; 2 sons, Rick Barbosa and wife Becky of Excelsior Springs, MO and Dave Barbosa and wife Heather of Blue Springs, MO; 3 sisters, Maria Stancil, Leigh Ramirez and Margie Barbosa all of Independence, MO; 3 brothers, Tony Barbosa of Independence, MO, Joe Barbosa of Bates City, MO and Rey Barbosa of Weatherby Lake, MO and 4 grandchildren, Desiree, Marcos, Jacob and Jesse.
